MAXIM PUSHKOV
Short Profile

Maxim Pushkov was born March, 1958 into a family of scientists in Troitsk, Moscow Region, Russia.

His grandfather, Doctor of Science N.V. Pushkov, a world renowned scientist, founder and director of the Institute of Earth Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation for almost 30 years (1940-1969) in Troitsk.

With a combination of a healthy family environment of love, music, books, and interesting people the seeds of faith were instilled in a future artist. Maxim Pushkov graduated from the Troitsk Art School and continued his enthusiasm for art by attending the Art-Graphics Institute.

When he was 20 and still at the institute, both his grandfather and father died. In order to support himself and continue his education, he worked at many jobs: brick-layer, metal worker, builder, art instructor.

After graduating from the Art-Graphics Institute, Maxim Pushkov spent many years illustrating books. Before settling on the graphics pen and ink technique, he gained recognition as an illustrator for some of the largest pub-lishers in the former Soviet Union.

In 1986 another tragedy greatly influenced his life. While they were rid-ing in a taxi, an automobile accident took his wife's life and left him severely injured and traumatized. Thanks to his strong will and the help of friends and family he survived. His recovery gave birth to a reinforced optimism and love of life.

One of Maxim Pushkov's main themes is Mother Russia and her tran-quil landscapes. This is not true realism, but merely life's emotional upbring-ing. Also constantly on his mind is the "eternal" conflict between "good and evil," "love and hate," In other words, he addresses the moral dilemma that surrounds mankind every day of his life. This is visible in many different ways: "Angel and Satan," "life and death," "fire and water," or "white and black crosses."

Maxim Pushkov travels frequently collecting material for his work. He has had a number of art shows in some of the more prestigious exhibit halls of the former Soviet Union. Many of his works may be found in private col-lections in Russia, the United States, Germany, Holland, Austria, Australia, Sweden and Spain. Nature, the skies and faith give Maxim his inspiration and energy.
